My personal favourite is a singer who plays a bit of guitar, called "Skin" she has so much attitude and she can sing amazing ballads as well as angry rock.

:) If you haven't heard her yet, she was in a band called Skunk Anansie and here is a song or two by them if you feel like looking at some videos.

Skunk Anansie Hedonism - Ballad

Skunk Anansie - Selling Jesus - HEAVY!!!!

Anyway.... they reformed recently and I got to see them, which is great because I have loved them since I was young, but the new album they came up with was very pop not so heavy like the old stuff though I haven't heard the whole thing.

Now tell me who is your favourite?

Oh thats easy... Trixie Whitley!! Girl has a set of pipes that will knock you dead! Plays drums, keyboards, and guitar to boot. Does the solo thing, and also sings for the band BlackDub.

Ana Vidovic - classical guitarist from Croatia, now living in the US.

Technique to die for. I have her recording of Federico Moreno-Torroba's "Castles of Spain" suite, and BBC Radio 3 occasionally wheel out her complete performance at one of the Scandinavian guitar festivals the other year. I've just installed Cubase on this PC and it'll record the stereo output from BBC iPlayer which Audacity doesn't seem to want to do. It's just a matter of time......

Emily Remler (jazz guitar), Orianthe (rock guitar), Carol Kaye (bass), Tal Wilkenfeld (jazz bass), Shirley Horn (piano/vocals), and I'm sure I'll think of a dozen or so more as soon as I click "send".

I won't mention any vocalists, as there are too many favorites to list.

Is Orianthe the one who played with Vai? Recorded a song with her, I am jealous of her skills and people like that who can do really technical things. I am of the past really, all my Hendrixy licks etc..... but I am happy where I am for now.

Look up Mona Gnader - she's an Amazon on bass, (still?) plays with Sammy Hagar's Wabos, and other work.

I don't really like Hagar but I will check it out, I could not believe Chickenfoot, their lyrics were even worse than the ones Joe Satriani sings (and all his fans hate his vocal tracks but love Chickenfoot, figure that one out).
