hey. i've been having another go at slowplay's beautiful title. not sure about this yet, but thought i'd still post

Fables for Fooling Myself (title: slowplay)

I have lost track of the days these past few months
Well, I'm certain the nights outnumbered them
And this attic room window is not losing its spell
Streetlights flickering when the city falls asleep

Cardboard boxes keep mocking me
At dusk they whisper “we are not here”
And if the light of the rainbow is a continuum
There is an ocean of colour unbeknownst

These years have never been lime green in your book

A head on a chest that's not yet hollow
Lying on floors with Tracy Chapman
Nights on a bench in your overcoat
These are but fables for fooling myself
Alone in the tram or leaning against
Doors that are closed

Your mother said something like this is a dead end,
Something like the future's waiting elsewhere
And I disliked her tone though I suppose it's true
There is a map I've been reading too much into

Words long forgotten are like shadows
Focus on the light and they creep up behind you
And these ghosts bear weak witness
If no one else sees them

These years I must have been imagining

A head on a chest that's not yet hollow
Lying on floors with Tracy Chapman
Nights on a bench in your overcoat
These are but fables for fooling myself
Alone in the tram or leaning against
Doors that are closed

I have lost track of the days these past few months
Well, I'm certain the nights outnumbered them
And this attic room window is not losing its spell
Streetlights flickering when the city awakes

Now a winter sunrise holds still the world askew
With a mind set on beauty I crawl back into bed
Where sleep hovers above me with mortal dreams
So I just sit and stare till it's time to go to work

some insecurity spots for me in there... any suggestions welcome :)
cheers,
straycat.
