Fact: It costs 2.4 cents to make the American penny.

WHAT IT'S WORTH
we’re losing money making money
it doesn’t make sense
and we keep on making more,
at who’s expense
someone’s gonna pay
who’s it gonna be
look around
it’s probably you and me
we’re busy making pennies
more everyday
making more pennies
they won’t go away
we keep on making pennies
at 2.4 cents a pop
we keep on making pennies
and we just can’t stop
and what can a penny buy
just your thoughts
and when you come to think of it
that’s not a lot
we’re busy making pennies
more everyday
making more pennies
they won’t go away
pennies don’t come from heaven
but we know where they go
they collect in old glass jars
and slowly they grow
we lose them in the cushions
of our favorite chair
since they’re not worth much
we leave them there
we’re busy making pennies
more everyday
making more pennies
they won’t go away
58 million dollars
that’s the last count
how much we lose each year
by not cutting them out
We’re losing money making money
it doesn’t make sense
we’re losing money making money
that’s my two cents
We’re losing money making money
it’s the American way
the more we make
the more we pay
How true and what a great idea for a song. :)

Another good song Neil. I had no idea that the US still issued pennies. Australia stopped using one and two cent coins way back in 1992. Since then our smallest denomination coin is a 5c piece. Apparently the cost of making them was a factor, and some of the recalled coins were melted down and used to make bronze medals for the Sydney Olympics. It seemed slightly odd to withdraw them at the time, because you could no longer actually pay amounts like $1.99. But all purchase are simply rounded up or down to the nearest 5c - unless they're done electronically (cards etc), in which case the exact amount can be used. And now, even the 5c coin seems hardly worth bothering to remove from the back of the chair...
Hi Neil,
LOoks good. This one part is a bit of a put down on the listener though.....just your thoughts...thats not worth a lot......could be a better way to not be a put down.....
I am not going to add much more trying to type out on my wife's ipad is no fun :|

Thanks for your comments, guys. Always appreciated.
James - You're spot on about "thoughts" . . . . . Sometimes I just can't help myself. It doesn't fit and I'll be editing it out. Thanks.
Neil
Sing it Neil
Sounds good!
All this talk reminds me of penny candy. I use to go to the corner grocery store, which was the size of a small city house. The lady would sell candy that cost a penny! Remember candy dots on paper?
Good song. It makes me want to smile. :)
Sounds good!

I like songs like this that make you stop and think.....huh? That's really going on?
The way you deliver it sounds like it would go over well done live with moments of pause for the audience to "get" what you're saying.

Great stuff Neil. Your upbeat and catchy music and singing suited the subject well and made the gentle humour really effective. I hope you'll be singing it to wider audiences. :D
