As Teleplayer was as instrumental ( ) as Uno Pulgar in setting this going, the first task will be to record your version of Sleepwalk.

For those of you who want a leg up, you can get the tab, the chords, a backing track and the author's own rendition of this Shadows recording (using his own backing track) from

http://freenet-homepage.de/greybeard/Sleepwalk.zip

Right-click and "save link as..."

All the files have come from the site run by Goran Tangring, who does a wonderful job of maintaining it all. They represent a different version to the original Santo & Johnny recording, without the use of slide guitar.

You don't have to use these files, if you can find a backing track elsewhere, please use it or record your version without, if you wish.

When you're finished add a link to your recording in the thread, for others to see.

I hate to start this and run, but I shall be away on business until Friday Evening. I shall try and get my recording done at the weekend.

Best of luck, everyone.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

OK, try this

If it times out, just retry.

WOW!
This brings back memories of when I first started playing and the teacher I had was trying to get me to understand how it goes along.
Oh, so long ago!

It's gona be fun to see what I can do now with it.
I haven't play this piece since, about, 20 years!

Woohoo.... :D

Got the first six notes down.... 8)

Now to....geez... there's an awful lot of notes still left to go! :?

I might be adding the finishing touches sometime during my next re-incarnation, so don't wait up for me.

But as this is my first attempt at a solo on electric guitar (normally an acoustic rhythm player) I shall be happy if I only nail a few bars this time around.

Good one Greybeard,

Cheers,

Chris.

Thinks...... Hank Marvin used to live only a few kilometers from here... I wonder if he's still there.... and what sort of bribe fee he charges for doing another fellow's homework..... hmmmm....

Well, looks like I'm the first to get at the shooting line.
OK then, I'll be an easy target but go easy, please?
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=376384&songID=4867069

I initially wanted to go more like the original but it was too much work tonite, so I went the easy route for me, a distorted sound. And I went a little over the top after the break.
And I realized even more now hat I really need to work a lot more on my slide technique.

S'cuse the noise!

Hey Frank

I'll take a stab at your question. I think you are mean to download the files at http://www.really-cool.net/greybeard/Sleepwalk.zip by right-clicking and "save target as". Save that file to your hard drive. Then there will be several files once you get it extracted. A sample of the song being played (the lead), a backing track (with just the rythm guitar), and a couple files with the tab for learning the rythem or lead.

Then you practice up on the lead and get it down as best you can. Record it and post a link to your recording back in this thread.

I think it would be helpful if future threads were named something like "Instrumental - Sleepwalk" so that when there are several out there we will be able to find which one we want.

Hope that helps. Post back if you have further questions or need me to be more specific about something.

Jim

I may give it a go and re-record with the backing track

Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.
