Audacity Save Problem

I've encountered a problem with saving a project in Audacity and wondered if anyone else has met up with this:

I'm working with a collaboration, and had two players' segments mixed in. When I tried to save it, I got:

"Error saving project: Perhaps C:Doc.....is not writeable, or the disk is full."

There is an OK button only, so when I click OK, I get:

"Audacity Error: Failed to copy the file [file name] (error2: the system cannot find the file specified)"

Incidentally, I had already mixed and saved this project several days ago, but when I tried to open the Audacity file, it said the Data could not be found, so this is not the first problem with this particular group of files (backing track plus two segments).

Is it possible that one of the segments has an anti-copy lock of some kind on it, or that one of the files is somehow corrupted? Grasping at straws here, I know.

I'm probably best off to start with an entirely new copy of the backing track and re-mix the two parts in, but if there is a known way to avoid this problem in the future, I'd like to learn.

Thank you for any help you can give....

Have you checked the free space left on your C: drive?

I've had that before. I think I saved the project under another name (save as) and it worked. It's worth a shot.

Looks like corrupted files then.

What he says. It will probably work then.

No, I tried that under a couple different names.

Guess I'll start over with a new copy of the backing track and pray harder this time.

I've had that happen once or twice, I think I lost or deleted the data file. I always keep the data file and the project together in the same master file. Another problem I have noticed is when you import a file into audacity ( such as you would do in a forum jam) sometimes after you go to replay the track later that imported track will be gone(you will see the wav form but you wont hear it) So I always save the parts I import on a separate wave file just in case

I have a folder for each jam team, and in that folder I keep everything related to that team--the BT, the individual segments as they come in, and the Master with the parts mixed in. So I do have everything handy and available to go back and start that team's mix over.

After the first re-mix from scratch last night, exactly what you said happened: "...when you import a file into audacity ( such as you would do in a forum jam) sometimes after you go to replay the track later that imported track will be gone(you will see the wav form but you wont hear it)" I'm glad to know at least that it's not just me.

Those situations combined made me wonder if there is a problem with that particular individual segment.

I'll try it from scratch again and see what happens.

Thanks!

I've had that a couple of times before, both when trying to save to my flash drive (USB-stick) - once was because I had it set to read only , and once when I'd opened the file a long time before and had since removed the drive

Might be something like that?

OK, I re-mixed both parts in to the BT, saved (as), and reopened it successfully, and all seemed in order.

So, keeping fingers crossed, let's consider this one solved unless you hear me scream again.

Thank you for the link, Dog. Misanthrope, I wasn't using any flash drive or USB, so don't think it was related to that this time, but I can see how that could mess things up.

Thanks, everybody!

Oh I see! I think you're enjoying to that forum, I want to try to visit that forum. Is audacity guides you how to use recording? and any sound editor?
