So I got a guitar for Christmas a couple of days ago, and am loving it so far. But I bought some Ernie Ball strings to replace the ones that came on the guitar, because the guitar that I got was rather cheap, so I figured the strings it came with wouldn't be very good. I re-strung the guitar, and now a day and a half later, it still won't stay in tune for more than like 90 seconds. I'll tune the top string, then continue tuning the rest of them, and by the time I'm done the top one is out of tune already. At first I figured that it was because I hadn't stretched the strings enough. Now it's been played on for a few hours, I've stretched the strings out numerous times using different stretching techniques, and nothing's changed. I've done some research online about guitars staying in tune, but to no avail. One thing I think it might be is that I might not of wrapped the string around the tuning rod enough times. Would that have any effect on it? Thanks.

Sup bro, I think you didn't wrap the string around enough. The same thing happens to me but with the thin e string. You want to give your string a frets worth of slack before you start winding it. Too me 3 packs of strings and a YouTube video before I figured it out lol
Is your guitar an acoustic? an electric? What bridge does it have?
its a squire electric, my father gave it to me but he hardly played it himself so I'm sure he didn't change anything with it. I've got Daddario EXL110 strings in it, playing it now actually but don't take my word as gospel I've only been playing a for a little over a month

My suggestions.
1) Put some pencil lead (graphite) in the slots of the nut, this will reduce the friction and keep the strings from binding then slipping
2) Neatly wind the strings on the tuner, there are plenty of videos that show you how to do it easier than I can explain it here.
3) When the guitar is strung, if you have a vibrato/whammy bar, depress it and let it string back.
4) Tune the guitar up to pitch. If you tune it too high, release the tension and try again until you bring it up to pitch.
5) Wiggle the whammy bar and re-tune.
If this doesn't work, have a competent guitar tech look at it.
