Hi Guys,

I have always used 9-42 or more recently 9-46 Hybrid guage strings on my Les Paul .I was looking for some alternatives and noticed that some signature sets such as the GHS Dave Gilmore and Eric Johnson sets have different guages for Fender and Gibson guitars.(Strats and LP's?)
I assume that this is something to do with the scale eg.9's on a Strat will have more tension than on a Les Paul.Never really thought there was that much difference between the two.(Learn something new everyday!)
I am thinking about moving to 10's on my Les Paul so any info much appreciated.

Cheers

Bob.

rule of thumb: 10s on a 24.75 in scale Gibby (e.g. LP) feel and fret about the same as 9s on a 25.5 in Fender (e.g. Tele, Strat).

however, YMMV depending upon type of bridge/tailpiece configuration. while the static tension of two guitars with the same gauge and scale and tuning may be the same, the tension through a bend will be somewhat different among floating trem, trapeze tail, string-thru-body. this is one reason Strats (with floating trem) feel different than string-thru-body Teles.

-=tension & release=-
