Now I wish there was a Uke-noise place :P Ukulele players discussion....
It is this Uke - and it looks way nicer in real life and it sounds great too! I picked it out by looks then I compared the sound to all the other Uke's in the shop and I still came back with that one which made me happy (and made my wallet happy too)
:) Anyone else got a uke?

No, but I have a mandolin.

Taking over the world with little instruments!

I've looked at a few ukes. Most that I've seen were pretty bad, probably because most were at garage sales. If I ever run across a good one in my sparsely populated neck of the woods, I'm ready to buy.
I do own two mandos, so I'm doing my part to take over the world.

I feel they are really great instruments for guitarists...... I mean the strumming part is all done for you and some chord shapes work just the same on the Uke too (Dmajor is now a G major! D7 is a G7 too so it all kind of adds up)
I didn't actually think any of the other Uke's in this store sounded that nice but I really liked this one and it was a good price so I feel very glad about that. I have wanted a proper Uke for years and only ever had a cheap Mahalo one which I got rid of ages ago so I have been Uke-less for a while.

Ukes are a blast. I got mine when I was on vacation over spring break and couldn't stand to go a week without playing some sort of instrument. One day, I'll get a better one, mine is pretty cheap.
welcome to uke land. they are fun instruments. happy to see you have one.
Can you recommend any good beginner sites? My son has been wanting one for ages, and I finally bought him one today. I've been trying to push him towards an electric, but for some reason that's all he's been interested in.
Seriously, you should check out David's beginner uke book. I haven't seen a website that's as good. There's a link to it here:

It got me playing the ukulele pretty well and pretty quickly. I'll be posting a review of the book on the site later this month.

this is a nice site. click on a song title and you will be pleased.
My mother-in-law got me a mandolin for my birthday this week! One of the Fender starter packs. It sounds really good. Now I just gotta learn to play it. :D

Congrats Fleaaaaa and Jeff on your new members of the family.
I've got a uke. It's fun, but I have not played it in ages. Not sure why.

And another one joins the club...
I picked up a definite fixer-upper uke a few months back at a thrift store. The finish was a mess, the bridge was missing. No question, this thing is a a project.
Well, after some work, and a new paint job, here it is:
It's still an incredibly cheap instrument, but it plays (in tune and everything), and how cool is that shape?!

Congrats, fleaaaaaa!
