Guitar Pro

Go to google - think of a song you want to learn - type in "name of song guitar pro file" - It will probably take you to ultimate guitar or something like that - normally you have to scroll down a while and there is a box that says "download song name guitar pro tab" click on that and save it somewhere - remember where! Then open it and you will see the song tabbed for you - now if you press space you will hear the song.

One cool feature is you can choose bars that you are struggling with speed wise and use the "speed trainer" - Press the F9 - F key - and you will see an option for speed trainer you can then chose how fast it increases.

What else do you want or need to know? It's a great learning tool, I don't know what to tell you because no one ever taught me about how to use I just thought it was brilliant :D :lol: Sorry if its no help.

Yes that's right Honeyboy, and even if they are not quite right you can edit them yourself. You could also use it to transcribe your own riffs/songs. You could then post them on your web site if you wanted.

There is a mode where you can set a section of a tab to loop, so you can practice just that section. You can also set it to slowly speed up each time the loop repeats. That allows you to start painfully slow - to get the notes perfected, then speed up by (for instance) 1 BPM each time it repeats, until you get up to full speed.

Other things that I like: it allows you to transpose the whole song if you want to play it in a different key.

and if you can't find a TAB for the song you want to learn, you can import a MIDI file and it'll tab that out for you.

I might just be being a crotchity old man because I transcribed Inca roads burning out the reverse motor on an old walkman. (what's a walkman?) You kids with your leaf blowers and internet porn (I'm shaking my fist by the way) you don't know how easy you've got it.

fairly certain most of us youngsters know what a walkman is :) had one for a while and im 17. had it mostly cause it interested me. then again most things with moving parts interest me..

i have to say guitar pro never interested me enough to buy it. always thought tabs and sheet music was good enough for me. then again, ive be in music ever since i can remember so maybe things come to me faster..

I know you are joking but I started using guitar pro a long time ago..... Certainly helped me as a musician and many of the lead lines I learnt from it I can now hear and work them (or similar things) out just from hearing them I.e. I know how it will play before I pick up my guitar.... So it kind of helped my ears too.... But I dont rely on guitar pro entirely and many things I wanted to play had no tab or I just considered too obvious to use guitar pro for but to wrap it up.... It helped me grow as a musician and I will defend it to my death good sir. :lol:

In addition to many of the ways it's been used as listed already in this thread, I've also exported Audio to make backing tracks with just the right instruments to play against.

Time progressed and I've since learned to export the drum MIDI from GP, import it into Pro Tools and set it up to go against drums software called "Strike" and completed the rest of the song.

So yeah, learning tool, fun, whatever I've wanted. It's been a staple for what? $50 a couple of times spanning a few versions. That's like saved up string-money-cheap.

This is a cool feature I've bene using it lately to help speed up some arpeggios I was practicing.
