I misjudged how much money I could spend on monitors in my last help me choose monitors thread:(

To the point where Gators, any decent Sennheisers, etc. are out of the picture.

I've found three brand monitors that are still in my price range.

Anyone want to rank these three (obviously from one to three :D) in the order that they think are the best (not neccessarily for the buck, jsut best in general)? I'd appreciate it.

Audio Technica ATM-M30 http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/7041339ec2fdcc12/index.html
Sony http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&productId=128033
AKG K-240M http://www.akg.com/products/powerslave,mynodeid,186,id,429,pid,429,_language,EN.html (Most expensive,a nd while they appear great, one thing that worries me is the lack of the mention of Neodymium magnet drivers)

One more thing, while AKG lists the K-240 Studio as a current product, seaching for the term that the ebay store I plan to buy it from called the K-240M Monitor brings up the category of discontinued product at AKG. The package however looks the same. Is the K-240M the same as the K-240?

I'm an Ars-Technica fan. I like the way they feel, I like the way they sound.

But frankly, those are three very respectable products and you won't go wrong with any of them. I'd go around to audio rooms and find a pair of each to put on your head and see how they feel to you.

Hmmm, I had visions of headphones with three earpieces...

Then I saw that Ars-Technica mention and had a different sort of vision...

Definetly the Grado's as Nick suggested, they are amazing for the price.

The first time I heard a Beatles song was "Let It Be." Some little kid was singing along with it: "Let it pee, let it pee" and pretending he was taking a leak. Hey, that's what happened, OK?-some guy

Thos eGrados seem good :)

Just a quickie: are they meant for recording and/or mixing? It's simply the lack of the term monitor, mention of those neo-whatever-magnets and two-sided cord make them seem like standard "biased" media headphones.
