I have heard about a Theory book called "Harmony". It is mentioned in the "Theory Without Tears" article. I have two questions:
1. Is it really as good as it is said to be?
2. Where can I get it?
I have tried to find it at stores and some other places but I could never seem to find it.
If you're talking about "Harmony" by Walter Piston,
1. It's that good. It's been the standard reference work on harmony for more than 40 years.
2. It's not exactly a popular novel, so the stores that will stock it will either be college bookstores near schools with music majors, or perhaps music stores. I'm sure you can order one online, but it's fairly expensive.

It really is an excellent text, and covers about everything you could possibly need (and then some). I believe Piston was a Harvard professor.
Being as old as it is, it doesn't discuss more current genres and their conventions, but the information it offers is universal. Buy it. And take plenty of notes.
