This is one from the classic "Unplugged album"
Jamming to it with "Dogsbody" (Chris) the other day.
Such a nice easy song to play with a nice little solo in it (I will tab it later).
Have a go at finger picking the intro, then strum into the chords for the verse and chorus.
Play it softly with a sort of swing / shuffle feel
Intro= C / E7 / A7 / Dm / A7 / Dm / F / F# /C / A7 /D7 / G7
C E A7
Once I lived the life of a millionaire
Dm A7 Dm
Spending all my money didn't have any cares
F F# C A7
Took all my friends out for a mighty good time
D7 G7
We bought bootleg liquor, champagne and wine
C E A7
Then I began to fall so low
Dm A7 Dm
Lost all my good friends, had no where to go
F F# C A7
If I get my hands on a dollar again
D7 G7
I'll hang on to it, till that old eagle grins
Chorus:
C E A7
Because nobody loves you
Dm A7 Dm
When you're down and out
F F# C A7
In your pocket, not one penny
D7 G7
And as for friends, you don't have many.
C E A7
When you get back on your feet again
Dm A7 Dm
Everybody wants to be your long lost friend
F F# C A7
I said it straight, without any doubt
D7 G7
Nobody knows you, when your down and out.
Hope you like this one as much as I do.

I knew you could do if if you tried!
10/10 for effort, and 11/10 for refusing to be beaten....and at least 10 instant street cred points for the solo as well!
EXCELLENT job, Rod m'man!
:D :D :D :D :D

(We really have to get together and jam to this, and the acoustic version of Layla......)

Thanks a lot!
Good one Rodders,
Just knew you wouldn't be able to resist putting this one on the ESD. I've been practicing it for about an hour this evening. Still not getting a good ring on the F# barre chord when sliding up the neck from the F barre chord, but it will come.
I have found that if I use an Fmaj7 open chord it covers for both F and F# and is easy to get back to the C chord. But thats cheating so I'm going to press on with the barres. The jamming should be better next time we meet.
Cheers,
Chris
The guitar is all right John but you'll never make a living out of it! (John Lennon's Aunt Mimi)
Very nicely done, excellent tab
Immature? Of course I'm immature Einstein, I'm 50 and in a Rock and ROll band.

I'm really glad your all enjoying this one. Its a little gem.
I have since been listening to Derek & the Dominoes version on "Layla and other assorted love songs" and I really dont think it stands up as well as this acoustic version.

I never heard this song but I love the lyrics. Wonder if there's a sample version of it on the net?
There is a short sample on amazon that will give you an idea of the tempo and strumming.
its been set up for realplayer.
Also I have added this url for those of you who are not familiar with the solo. I have looped it, which is something I find very helpfull as learning tool as it allows you to continually play something over and over until you get it just right http://rodders.dmusic.com/ Its looped 10 times but if you set your windows media player to "repeat" it will play endlessly.
Am I the only person that does these sad things :? :?:

nice, thanks for the sample. BTW erase the "....and" in the reply to your message and you should be good, thanks man
Here are all the songs on the "Unplugged" album, with a choice of Real or Windows Media player.
Rodders, I'll have a play with that loop - sounds a good trick.
For anyone interested, there's a very nice program called Transcribe!, that will not only loop for you, but will do it at any speed, without changing pitch. You just mark the section of waveform and let it run.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?
