I just started learning to play and i've been teaching my self brown eyed girl. My problem is for something such as this...

G C G D
Hey, where did we go days when the rain came
G C G D
Down in the hollow playing a new game
G C
Laughing, and a running, hey, hey
G D G C
Skipping and a jumping in the misty morning fog,
G D C D G Em
with our hearts a thumpin' and you, my brown eyed girl
C D G
You, my brown eyed girl

I have no idea how long i should be staying with a G Chord before moving to another chord.

the strum pattern i've been using is down down up up down up

I use Brown-eyed girl in lessons. Great song.

You need to change chord on the first beat of every bar, except for the run in to the chorus where the last four bars are all "D"

Spend some time with the lyric sheets and the Van Morrison recording. Listen closely and you'll be able to hear the chord changes.

This is a strange fake sheet.

Most of the time the chord change is indicated above a word in a verse. Here's a better fake sheet from ultimate-guitar.com. It's much better.
