Necessary background. I'm somewhat more than a year into the second time I've tried to learn to play the guitar (and it's going okay!). Last time was 20 years ago- I was a teenager, saved up for a guitar in summer jobs, finally bought it, and the house got robbed.
So last week, I met my landlady's grandson. Nice kid- 16 years old, taken classical guitar lessons for a year or so. REally wanted to play some rock, and saved up all his birthday money to get a cheap electric. He bought a Yamaha pacifica, I think, and the next week, their house got robbed. I can REALLY feel for this kid.
So I gave him my beatercaster. It wasn't a great guitar, but worked really well. It's the first one I bought, learned to solder, shim, and set up- cheap guitar, but I learned a lot and it sounded pretty okay. Now that I have another one, though, I almost never play it...and I didn't want some kid to wait 20 years to have this much fun, like I did.
It's a little thing, but I feel good.
