Re: A rhythm-section thread

I gave it a listen- I'd love to hear you idea of overtly christian if you think that music is subtly christian! Good guitar's, I do agree. But "Jesus you are my lord" is such a blatant rip off of "I'm a man" by Chicago Transit Authority that I lost interest right there. That Stuff really irks me. I...

Re: A rhythm-section thread

What a great introduction to the bass guitar! People seem to avoid the six-string electric bass, but it's the perfect fulfillment of Leo Fender's original concept. Not as hard to play as one might think.... Agreed. It really made me learn to keep strings not being actively played muted quickly. I b...

Re: A rhythm-section thread

I had a very similar experience to jwmartin. I was in high school/college marching and concert bands growing up, from 7th grade on. I played tuba and was quite good at it. (Actually, still not half bad, as I picked up my son's tuba a few months ago and I think I was still better than him. I think th...

Re: How do you organize your song book?

Late to the party I know, but I use google docs. Then just print out what I need. For gigs, I have a one page sheet with about 40 boxes in it. Each box is for a song. I put notes in there if I need, like what key we play it in, reminders to not miss the walk here or there. Even reminders not to forg...

Re: Gig Report 10/16 and 17 - Tempest@GKs Pub in Bay Minette, AL

Thanks for the kind words everyone. We really had a great time and it sounds like we will be invited back in the near future. By the way, good placement of your amp on the stage. It makes a good monitor shooting across the stage, and it won't fight with the PA. Yeah, I have been looking at a lot of ...

Oh, and a pic from the night.

The guy in front is our guitarist Mark. I'm behind, with my leg cocked up on the monitor.

Gig Report 10/16 and 17 - Tempest@GKs Pub in Bay Minette, AL

This past weekend was the first gig with the new band, Tempest. This is the first time I've ever been paid for playing music. I've performed many times in my life, in front of thousands of people on the field at halftime at college football games, but never have I left with more money than I came wi...

Re: New band!

Awesome, grats on the new gig. "Just What I Needed" is the song that I sing lead on with my band. I backup on everything else. We play several "different" early 80's songs. "Break Up Song" by the Greg Kihn Band. "Shakin'" by Eddie Money. "Midnight Rendezvous" by The Babys. And of course, the obligat...

Re: Home practice area - what does yours look like?

I'll post mine...It's not like I should be sitting down at the computer and working or anything :D First, the overall view. We added on this room off the back of our bedroom this spring. One third has been mine, the other 2/3 were taken over by my wife's sewing and embroidery. Go figure.. Over on th...

Thanks to GN and a musical journey update

Hello everyone, I don't post much at all anymore, and even have stopped lurking as much as I used to as well, but I still consider GN very formative to me from my first foray's into guitar around five years ago. In that time, I've messed around, laid the guitars down, picked them up months later. I ...

I have this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-V-tone-Bass-Amp-Modeler/dp/B000M58PJQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1246463076&sr=8-3 Does a great job and sounds really good through the PA. It is a copy of a much more expensive product, the Sansamp Tech 21. http://www.amazon.com/Tech-21-SansAmp-Bass-Drive...

The bass sounded really good. Did you replace the stock pups? What amp/cab is he running it through?

Re: Sterling by MusicMan?

Not sure about the guitars, but the basses are getting good reviews. Check out this video by Ed Freiland. He plays both the SB14 and Ray34 basses. I would think build quality and such would be comparable on the guitars.

Sweet! Sounds like you got a great deal on a good cab.

Is that a GK Backline 600? How are you liking the head?

Re: Trying out for a band

Well, the tryout went really well! I had gotten a list of 10 or so songs from them and had worked them up pretty close to the recording. Got there and started playing. Several songs were played in keys different from the recordings. Luckily I've gotten into the habit of playing just about everything...
