Re: Tribute Bands

When I lived in the Chicago suburbs I saw a very good Beatles tribute band several times. If I remember right they were called American English. Much like the band Vic mentioned they attempted to look the part, period costumes, instruments, and all. I was lucky enough to be able to take my kids to s...

Re: What's a good beginner's guitar these days?

Check out Alvarez Guitars. A number of the beginning students in my area have started using them. They have a number of different models. My daughter got one last year. It sounds great and has been very easy for her to play. It was about $300 US with a fairly nice case.

Re: Chicago?

When I lived in Chicago, there were several blues clubs on Clark Street in the downtown area. In fact, one of the places used to have family friendly shows (on certain days of the week) where children were welcome. I took my children there a couple of times. I think this is the website. http://www.b...

Re: Hmmmmm, What To Do

rparker,

I would have to go for the P90's. I recently got a chance to play with some for the first time. I really liked their sound. The ones I looked at had a very hot and dirty sound to them.

Re: Travel Question

This is just my opinion as someone who periodically bounces around between multiple geographic areas for extended periods of time; Forget about a flight case checked with the airline. If you are really traveling “all over” that would get old really quick. The airline industry has become very unf...

Re: Parlor or 3/4 guitar for flying?

I used to own a Washburn Rover travel guitar. It was good for practicing on the road. However, the sound was not so great. I was looking at Traveler Guitars for a model to replace the Rover. I tried out a really nice electric at Guitar Center. I think it was their EG-1 model. However, before I could...

Re: Some REAL Beginner Advice!!!!

How about this one? When I changed strings on my first electric guitar, I just kept turning the tuning peg on the high E. At the time I was using a really cheap tuner that never registered anything until you were pretty close to being in tune. Unfortunately, I broke the string before I realized the ...

It seems like a nice tool to save on my laptop. It's good to have something entertaining to do when you could be doing WORK.

Thank you.

One of these days I need to make it down to his big birthday party he has every year in Cabo San Lucas. They say it is the best concert he does every year.

Happy Birthday Sammy!

Had to stick this in here; When I was growing up all of the local radio stations would play Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant every thanksgiving. I thought I would throw a link in for everyone who has never heard it. The second link is from an NPR story about the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I traveled pretty extensively with a Washburn Rover for almost two years. This included several back packing trips. It was like most travel guitars, not completely satisfying. But it was nice to be able to play no matter where I was. It held up pretty good. It came with a soft bag that had foam inse...

When I first picked up a harmonica I had no clue what I was doing. David Harp's Instant Blues Harmonica had me playing quickly. I won't say I was playing good, but it was a great primer lesson. I believe he has a number of other books that get much more in depth. Here is a quick link to Amazon.com f...
