Re: Time for a shopping spree . . . help needed!

I can personally recommend two great stores in the DC area: Bill's Music in Catonsville (DEFINITELY worth the trip) http://www.billsmusiconline.com/ Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center in Veirs Mill (closer to you and also very good) http://www.wmcworld.com/ Thanks - they look great - I can tell ...

Re: Fat fingers 'ffect fretting

I think this is counter-productive thinking. Do you expect to be able to fit into pants that are 4" too small just because that size might be more common? Just take it as part of your learning that your physique doesn't work with certain guitars. And don't let it bother you. There are lots of guita...

Fat fingers 'ffect fretting

I am sure this must be a common thing but I have not seen anything on the topic. I have fairly large fingers - not sausages by any means - but my middle and ring fingers only just fit between the strings on my guitar (Washburn 10S - steel string acoustic). I have to ensure they are perfectly placed ...

Re: Musical Freedom

I have not yet advanced to the composing stage - so I can't comment on that but, creativity generally I is something that has been required of me quite often in my life. It is a very elusive thing. I tend to align with kent_eh's observation . . . I've read a lot of interviews with songwriters, and m...

Re: Time for a shopping spree . . . help needed!

Hey, many thanks all for the great advice - lots of food for thought: Your're right Dave - I've definitely got to play them and I'm sure I will know what feels & sounds right. Dunno how i'd failed to come across the Epiphone BBKing/Lucille - definitely gonna check that out - thanks Notes I had not c...

Time for a shopping spree . . . help needed!

Been away for a while and as part of my NY resolutions I am back to GN. So HI and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. When I joined about a year and a half ago I spent a lot of time here, it was great support for someone otherwise isolated from sources of advice and encouragement. I've missed the community - bee...

I was practisin and a year went by!

I've been away for so long I thought I had better come and re-introduce myself. Hi, its Ola (in Nigeria) and according to the control panel i last logged in in January 2008 - :o I had a look at the posts to see if others sign back in here after an absence and it seems to be the right thing to do. (S...

Re: Y6week9 sky in an inkwell

Hi, Hmm - seems like you have a drink problem. Never mind its not too late to start! Re the inkwell - I see. I had an image of a reflection, rather like you can get sometimes with a full cup. It reflects the view and you can imagine an Alice in Wonderland effect - shrink & jump into a diff...

Re: Bridge Pin Extraction

Thanks guys. I think I'll go for the one with the beer opener. Changing strings can be thirsty work. :) (You don't leave those ridiculous long tags of string hanging from your tuners, right?) erm, , lets just say my guitar looks like its just had a really bad hairdo. Time for a trim. Cheers Ola

Bridge Pin Extraction

Hi, I have not seen one in shops but I am sure there must be a bridge pin pulling device out there somewhere. I hae been using my teeth, pliers and assorted levers each time I change my strings and despite being as careful as I can the pins are beginning to look scuffed (not surprisingly). I am sure...

Re: SSG6 Week 9 - I gots some new s***

This song has energy. I can imagine running round the music shops singing it to myself (before the Xmas shopping for the kids went over the top & I has to put my GAS on hold). :( The only comment I have is that perhaps the repeat of poop could be got rid of. Nice one Ola PS - I do really actually, d...

Re: Y6week9 sky in an inkwell

Hi Straycat, As usual your lyrics reward a careful read. My take on the first verse is that it is someone kinda daydreaming while listening to music, feeling at one with nature. The second verse changes the assumption of peace & tranquility with the fists in pocket etc - this suggests tension, aggre...
